Thailand recently became one of the countries that have marriage equality, making it the third country in Asia. The Marriage Equality Act is a law that recognizes marriages of people of diverse genders. The word “husband-wife” will be changed to “spouse”, reflecting gender equality according to the principle in the constitution that states that all people are equal before the law. Of course, this law will be officially enforced in 2025, which is the end of the wait for many years and is a great joy. In this article, RHINOSHIELD will go into every issue of marriage equality to help you see its importance and understand it better.

Accepting sexual diversity in the global society is not an easy thing to do. Before reaching the era when people started to pay more attention and support sexual equality, LGBTQ+ people had been fighting for their rights and justice for a long time. The important starting point that caused a ripple of change around the world was the Stonewall Uprising in 1969 in New York, USA. It was an event where LGBTQ+ people fought for their rights from discrimination and led to the establishment of Pride Month in June to commemorate the struggle and acceptance of this group of people’s identities.

From the movement of LGBTQ people in that event, they have received more acceptance today. And what symbolizes pride from the efforts to demand rights and acceptance of LGBTQ people is the rainbow flag. The rainbow flag or Gilbert Baker Pride Flag was designed in 1978 by Gilbert Baker, which uses different colors to represent the meaning of sexual diversity. At first, the flag had 8 colors, but after experiencing production problems, the flag was adjusted to 6 colors, until it became the Traditional Pride Flag used around the world today.

  • 🔴 Red means life.

  • 🟠 Orange means healing.

  • 🟡 Yellow means sunlight.

  • 🟢 Green means nature.

  • 🔵 Indigo (Indigo) means calmness.

  • 🟣 Violet represents the spirit of LGBTQ+.

Unraveling the meaning of each letter in LGBTQ+ in terms of sexual diversity

In a world full of diversity, there are not only differences in culture, race, or language, but also in sexual diversity. Understanding and accepting gender equality is important in today's era, especially when everyone has the right to express themselves and choose to live their own truth. The familiar terms LGBTQ+ or LGBTQIA+ are not only abbreviations that refer to sexual diversity, but also symbols of respect and acceptance of differences, which help create a more open and understanding society.

The "+" sign added to LGBTQ+ represents the infinite diversity of sexualities and also shows the openness to accept all gender identities that cannot be identified or classified. Each letter in this acronym has important meanings and stories that help reflect the diversity of people who can live their own lives. So before Pride Month in 2025, RHINOSHIELD would like to take everyone to get to know the meaning of each letter in LGBTQ+ as follows:

Revealing the list of countries with equal marriage, an important step towards a new era of the world

On September 24, 2024, Thailand made history in terms of gender equality by becoming the third country in Asia to legalize marriage equality. The Civil and Commercial Code (No. 24) B.E. 2024 amended and revised the law that previously stated that marriage must be between a "man and a woman", making it possible for couples of all genders or gender diversity to legally marry, marking a major step towards creating a society of equality in Thailand. The change will be effective from January 22, 2025 onwards.

Of course, before Thailand became a country with equal marriage, there were many countries around the world that recognized this law. The first country to issue a law on equal marriage was the Netherlands in 2001. Then other countries such as Belgium, Spain, Canada, South Africa, Norway, and the United States followed. The recognition of this law on equal marriage shows the creation of an open society and the promotion of equal rights for all citizens, regardless of gender.
